About Us

Heloise Steyn Medical Solutions (HS Medical) is the culmination of extensive experience within the healthcare sector, where firsthand encounters with obstacles and inefficiencies motivated the development of innovative solutions.

Heloise`s journey began as a student nurse at JG Strydom Hospital (now Charlotte Maxeke), where she pursued her studies at Ann Latsky Nursing College. At the age of 21, she saved sufficiently to pursue a law degree at the Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg), concurrently working part-time at Clinical Holdings – Milpark Hospital. During this period, she witnessed the transformation of the hospital from a small facility to one of the largest Netcare Hospitals in South Africa, boasting highly specialized units.

Throughout her tenure, her exceptional commitment and adaptability led to roles in various departments, including theatre, catheterization laboratory, Hi-care, Cardiac, Cardiovascular, Trauma, and Neuro ICU. Subsequently, she transitioned to pathology, working full-time for prominent companies such as Van Drimmelen, Lancet, and Pathcare.

She has demonstrated a remarkable career trajectory within the healthcare sector, marked by significant progression and diversification of roles. Initially commencing as a call center agent, she subsequently ascended to leadership positions, including call center manager, wellness manager, and ultimately, a specialist in Drug Utilisation Review, Policies and Formularies.

Throughout her tenure, she has garnered extensive expertise in navigating the complexities of the medical schemes environment, addressing critical health concerns, evaluating Healthcare Technologies, and maintaining Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committees, including the development of Drug Formularies. Her collaborative approach has facilitated strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including Hospital Groups, Pharmacy groups, and Designated Service Providers.

Notably, she has played a pivotal role in informing benefit design and needs assessment, while also engaging with Market Access managers to evaluate novel technologies and pharmaceutical interventions.

Additionally, she has been instrumental in providing training to staff on emerging technologies and negotiating contractual agreements, further underscoring her exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Recognizing the importance of effective marketing strategies in achieving optimal outcomes and fostering meaningful collaborations, Heloise went on to complete her marketing degree. This additional skillset enabled her to effectively communicate the value of healthcare solutions, thereby driving successful partnerships and implementations.

Her career reached a milestone when she joined leading global technology manufacturers, ensuring access to numerous groundbreaking technologies. A notable achievement was securing funding and access to the first Continuous Glucose Monitoring system on the African continent, marking a significant breakthrough in diabetes management. Heloise's efforts extended to training diabetes advocates, fostering a unified voice and facilitating a stronger distribution network.

During her tenure, she identified a significant knowledge gap among the general South African population regarding the intricacies of medical schemes. It became apparent that many individuals lacked a clear understanding of how to navigate the complexities of medical solutions, resulting in uninformed decisions. Furthermore, newly established medical practices often struggled to grasp essential concepts such as Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs), Designated Service Providers (DSPs), and relevant legislation, leading to substantial financial losses due to a lack of clarity.

Throughout her remarkable journey, Heloise's dedication, perseverance, and passion for improving healthcare have been unwavering. Her ultimate goal is to replicate these successes, promoting greater collaboration and driving forward innovative solutions in the medical industry.
